Bruins Alumni at Stoneham Arena Sunday

Five things to know today, Thursday, April 4, 2013:
1. Mostly cloud, but spring warmth. A slight chance of rain today according to the National Weather Service. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 57. Southwest wind 7 to 9 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Tonight, mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming clear, with a low around 30. Northwest wind 10 to 16 mph.
2. Boston Bruins Alumni Team benefit game. On Sunday at 3 p.m. at Stoneham Arena, the Bruins Alumni Team will face off with the Ninety Nine Restaurants 'Ninety Nine Legends' at Stoneham Arena in a rematch of last year’s very event. Proceeds from this event will benefit The Boys & Girls Clubs of Stoneham, Woburn and Lynn. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for kids.

3. I'm the taxman. A reminder: 4th quarter real estate and personal property taxes are due Wednesday, May 1.
4. Fells hike on Saturday morning. Join Friends of the Fells hike leader Dan Sumorok on Saturday from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on a hiking tour of the southernmost part of the Fells on the Skyline, Reservoir, and Cross Fells trails. This walk will end with a visit to Pine Hill and Wright’s Tower, where the view includes Medford, Boston, and the Blue Hills in the distance. The trails are steep and rocky in places. Wear sturdy boots and bring at least a liter of water. Meet at the Bellevue Pond parking area, South Border Road, Medford. Rain cancels.

5. Last day for Zoo Hero Youth Award nominations. Do you know an outstanding youth who is an advocate for wildlife and conservation? Nominate him or her for a Zoo Hero Youth Award. As part of the celebration of Zootopia, Zoo New England’s creative black tie gala, the zoo staff is excited to announce the Zoo Hero Youth Awards, generously made possible by Blue Hills Bank. The nominated youth should be between the ages of eight and 18, have demonstrated a positive commitment to ZNE and its conservation mission, and have engaged in some outstanding action to support this. Awards will be presented at Zootopia on Saturday, May 11 at the Fairmont Copley Plaza in Boston. Two awards will be presented along with a $1,000 scholarship for each from Blue Hills Bank to further the recipient’s project, conservation work and education.
