Early Spring Hike in the Fells

Five things about Stoneham you need to know to start off your day.

Here are five things to know today, Wednesday, March 27, 2013:

1. He's heating up! Partly sunny today with a high near 50 according to the National Weather Service. Northwest wind 6 to 13 mph. Tonight, a slight chance of rain showers before 1 a.m., then a chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a low around 31. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

2. Early spring hike in the fells. Join Friends of the Fells hike leader Boot Boutwell for an Early Spring at Bellevue Pond walk in the Fells from 9:15-11:30 a.m. today. More info here, and check the Stoneham Patch calendar for more regular hikes and Fells activities.

3. Planning Board meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. On the board's agenda are public hearings on the Doherty's Lane Extension subdivision at 15 Summerhill St. and an increase in the number of families allowed in the mult-family residence at 2 Hill Court.

4. Relay for Life meetings. The first Team Captain Meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. tonight and Committee Meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m.

5. Stoneham resident holding Villa México Café pop-up night. Julie King, a 15-year Stoneham resident, and owner of Villa México Café, late of Beacon Hill, is holding a pop-up event tonight at Daddy Jones, Magoun Square in Somerville. The $50 per person event is a four-course meal, with vegetarian options and a cash bar. Per-person ticket for $50 includes dinner, service fees and gratuity. First seating is at 6:30 p.m. and second seating is at 8:30 p.m.
