Stoneham Elementary School Students Learn to "Be the Nice Kids"

Robin Hood and South School PTOs team up with SBCEF to bring lessons of kindness to local elementary schools

Several times a day when moving throughout the school, Robin Hood Elementary students pass by a banner with a quote inspiring them to “Be the Nice Kid.” In October, during National Bullying Prevention Month, students at Robin Hood and South Elementary Schools were visited by the author of this quote, Bryan Skavnak.

An inspiring speaker, writer and golf professional from Minnesota, Mr. Skavnak told stories to almost 400 kindergarten through fourth grade Robin Hood students. He entertained them, made them laugh, and inspired them to “be the nice kid” and choose kindness whenever possible.

The next day, at South Elementary School, the students were well-engaged and energetic, yet rapt and respectful. His well-structured storytelling was funny and personal, with connecting themes, and seemed to tie in well with the current curriculum focus on writing.

The program was made possible through support of the PTOs and a grant received from the Stoneham Business and Community Educational Foundation (SBCEF).
