Stoneham High School Football Super Bowl Bound After Semifinal Win

Stoneham beat Cardinal Spellman on Saturday to earn a ticket to Gillette Stadium and the MIAA Division 6 Super Bowl.

STONEHAM, MA — Stoneham High School’s varsity football team will soon head back to Gillette Stadium for a shot at a state title after downing Cardinal Spellman in an MIAA Division 6 semifinal game Saturday.

Top-ranked Stoneham had to navigate past 13th-ranked Cardinal Spellman, eventually securing a 24-17 win at Weston High School.

The win for Stoneham continued a dominant season that saw the team barrel into the playoffs with victories over Assabet Valley Regional Vocational Technical High School and Oakmont Regional High School.

Stoneham’s high-flying offense scored a total of 90 points in its two playoff games before facing Cardinal Spellman’s defense in this weekend’s Final Four clash.

Stoneham will now face St. Mary’s School of Lynn in the Super Bowl.

The game will mark a new chance at state championship glory roughly four years after Stoneham soared past Old Rochester in the MIAA Division 6 Super Bowl in 2018.

The MIAA was yet to confirm a date and time for Super Bowl matchups as of Sunday night.

Stoneham is still set to play Reading this week, though, in its annual Thanksgiving game on Thursday at 10:15 a.m. in Reading.
