Stoneham To Honor Purple Heart Recipients

The town was recently dedicated as a Purple Heart Community. It will hold a dedication ceremony next week.

STONEHAM, MA - Stoneham will recognize residents who have received the Purple Heart military honor next week with a special Purple Heart dedication ceremony on the Stoneham Town Common.

The event is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 11 at 6:30 p.m. at the Town Common Gazebo.

It comes as Stoneham celebrates its own designation as a Purple Heart Community.

The Purple Heart is the nation’s oldest military medal. It honors those wounded or killed while serving in the US Military.

Individual municipalities can attain Purple Heart Community status by delivering an official proclamation. The Stoneham Select Board made that proclamation in October of last year, additionally identifying Aug. 7 as Purple Heart Day in Stoneham.
