Stoneham Sees First Coronavirus-Related Death

STONEHAM, MA — On Friday, April 3, the Board of Health received confirmation of the death of a Stoneham resident due to the coronavirus. The patient, 88 years old with several underlying medical conditions, died April 2, health officials said.

The town did not release any additional information, citing privacy concerns.

"The Stoneham Board of Health continues to implore residents that this is a serious and unprecedented situation. Please ensure that you are taking the proper precautions to protect you and your loved ones during this uncertain time," Town Administrator Dennis Sheehan said in a statement. "Social distancing and proper hygiene continue to be the biggest actions residents can take to protect yourselves."

As of March 31, there were 33 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Stoneham.
