Vice Chair of Override Study Committee Opposes Another Tax Override
Stoneham, MA — Stephen Ternullo, Vice Chair of the Stoneham Override Study Committee, announced today that he cannot support the committee’s recent recommendation for another tax override.

“I took on this role to make sure taxpayers’ voices were heard and respected,” said Ternullo. “During our meetings, I raised serious concerns about unfunded state mandates, the lack of financial transparency, and the need for greater efficiency in town departments. I pressed department heads on how they could reduce costs and operate more effectively without relying on yet another override. Unfortunately, most of those questions went unanswered, and no meaningful efficiencies were offered.”
Ternullo described the process as one-sided, saying he often felt like the only member pushing for accountability and balance. “Stoneham residents already face higher rents, rising taxes, and mounting fees. Another tax hike would be irresponsible and unfair—especially for seniors and young families who are already stretched thin,” he said.

Ternullo reaffirmed his commitment to residents: “My priority is keeping Stoneham affordable, transparent, and inclusive for all. I will continue working to ensure that residents are informed and that their voices guide this critical conversation.”
