1. School Committee Meeting

The Stoughton School Committee is holding a special meeting in the TV studio at Stoughton High at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 14 to discuss the possible censure of member Dr. Erdem Ural.

In detailing why the Committee is considering a censure - a public condemnation - Dr. Ural is accused of:

  • Exceeding authority and insulting staff and opening the School Committee to legal liability.
  • Creating dysfunction within the School Committee and wasting taxpayer dollars on endless legal complaints against the School Committee and Administration.
  • Submitting a rogue evaluation of the Superintendent [Dr. Marguerite Rizzi].

2. March Madness Event at Stoughton High School

This Thursday, March 14, the Stoughton High Athletics Department and SHS Junior Class (Class of 2014) are co-sponsoring a March Madness event at the SHS gym.

The event, which starts at 3:30 p.m., will feature a student vs. faculty basketball game and a dunk contest.

The preliminary round of the dunk contest will be held at halftime of the student/faculty game, with the finals held after the game. Sources say Stoughton High boys' basketball senior captain Joe Bunce-Grenon and SHS Athletic Director Ryan Donahue are the favorites in the dunk contest.

This is a fundraiser for the SHS Athletics Department and Junior Class, with the proceeds split between the two groups.

Tickets, sold at the door, are $5 for spectators. There is a $1 student participation fee for those taking part in the game or dunk contest.

3. Party All Night Long March Madness Fundraiser

Party All Night Long (PANL), which runs a safe all-night graduation party for the Stoughton High senior class each year, is hosting its 3rd Annual March Madness Fundraiser - a night of fun for the parents.

It takes place Saturday, March 16 from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Portuguese National Club, 21 Railroad Ave. in Stoughton. This event has been so successful the past two years that it has been moved to a larger venue this year.

The $100 Cash Elimination Raffle Tickets are already sold out but tickets to the event itself are still available.

The evening features live Music by Stoughton’s own Jack Raeke and “The Standards", appetizers, desserts, silent auction, raffles and door prizes. There will be a cash bar available.

“The silent auction is fantastic this year,” said Rose Eckler, chairperson of the March Madness Event. “We have hotel getaways, tons of spa and restaurant gift certificates and the most sought after item is a handcrafted Pine Hope Chest made by local Seamus Fennessy. Last year his donation sold for over $500!”

A full list of auction items is posted as a PDF in the media gallery of this article.
