1. More Winter Weather on the Way

Another winter storm is expected to hit the Stoughton area on Tuesday, bringing snow, sleet and rain.

The storm will begin between the late evening hours on Monday and the early morning hours on Tuesday, and continue throughout the day on Tuesday, before winding down Tuesday night. 

Channel 7 expects the Stoughton area to receive about 2 to 4 inches of snow before it changes over to rain.

This storm will impact the Tuesday morning commute, as it is likely to still be snowing then. 

2. Candidates Night

The Stoughton Chamber of Commerce and the Stoughton/Sharon League of Women Voters are sponsoring a Candidates Night Monday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. for all candidates running for town-wide office in Stoughton's upcoming town election.

It takes place at the Stoughton Town Hall in the Great Hall on the third floor. There is no charge.

The evening will feature a debate between School Committee candidates Joyce Husseini, Patricia MacNeil, Debra Cote, and Carol Brown. School Committee is the only contested race on the ballot this election cycle.

3. Stoughton High Track Fundraiser at Jake's Wayback Burgers

The Stoughton High track team is having a fundraiser at Jake's Wayback Burgers in Stoughton (corner of Washington and Central Streets) Monday, March 18 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. to help defray the costs of new uniforms. 

A portion of the sales during this period will be donated to the track program. 

4. Stoughton Reads Together

The 2013 Stoughton Reads Together Program officially started March 1. People of the Book, this year's book selection, is a sweeping fictional adventure through five centuries of history, inspired by the true story of a mysterious codex known as the Sarajevo Haggadah.

This Wednesday, March 20 at 7 p.m., there will be a Passover Seder hosted by Harvey Levensohn and catered by NRM Catering in the Wales French Room of the Stoughton Public Library. Levensohn will follow the Haggadah during the meal and explain traditions to all who attend. All religious affiliations welcome. Reservations are required (781-344-2711).

5. Stoughton Police Explorers Academy

The following is from the Stoughton Police Department:

Come and learn crucial life skills that will serve you well into adulthood at the 12th annual Stoughton Police Explorers Academy.

The Police Explorers academy is a demanding 10 week course that covers the following:

  • Physical Fitness
  • Police Customs and Courtesies
  • CPR Certification
  • Self Defense
  • Criminal, Constitutional, Motor Vehicle Law
  • Drug Awareness
  • The Court System
  • K-9 Demonstrations
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Much More!

Orientation and sign ups for the 2012 Explorers Academy will be on March 19 at 6 p.m. at the Stoughton Police Station.

The Academy is for motivated teens with a cut off age of 21 and will take place Tuesdays and Thursdays at 5:30 p.m. starting on March 26.  

Graduates will be eligible for the department ride-along program during the summer months.  The program is geared toward young people with an interest in policing, medical, fire service, military service, or a desire to serve your community.

The Homework Center will be available for students in the Wales French room of the Stoughton Public Library this evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
