Car Crashes into Utility Pole on Chemung St. in Stoughton, Sends One to Hospital

A single car crash on Chemung St. in Stoughton Friday night sent the operator of the car (the lone occupant in the vehicle) to a Boston hospital. Power was knocked out in the area.

A man was transported to a Boston hospital Friday night after his vehicle struck a utility pole on Chemung St.

The single car crash occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. on April 5 near the intersection of Chemung St. and Joanne Rd., according to the Stoughton Fire Department.

The car, a Ford Explorer, struck the utility pole, shearing the pole off at its base, Stoughton Fire Department Captain Robert O'Donnell said.

The pole fell parallel to the road, but brought a large wire down across Chemung St.

The operator was the lone occupant in the vehicle and was transported by the Stoughton Fire Department via ambulance to Boston Medical Center, according to O'Donnell.

The injuries do not appear to be life-threatening, O'Donnell said, noting the operator was transported because of the extent of damage to the vehicle.

Power was knocked out in the area after the crash, O'Donnell said.

However, as of 6 a.m. on Saturday (April 6), the National Grid power outage website was no longer reporting any outages.
