Drunk Driver Leads Stoughton Police on High Speed Chase, Reportedly Assaults Officer
Sgt. John Bonney led a pursuit of an alleged drunk driver from Stoughton into Brockton early Sunday morning. The driver, a 29-year-old Randolph man, faces several charges in addition to OUI, including assaulting a police officer.

An alleged drunk driver led Stoughton Police on a high speed chase into Brockton early Sunday morning, according to Executive Officer Robert Devine.
Stoughton Police Sgt. John Bonney attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Jayson Zimmerman, 29, of Country Club Dr. in Randolph, on Park St. near Alger Way in Stoughton, but Zimmerman kept driving, with the pursuit eventually ending at 339 Arthur Paquin Way in Brockton, about four miles away, according to the Stoughton Police Log.
Zimmerman reached speeds of around 70 during the pursuit, which took place shortly after 1:40 a.m. on March 3, Devine said. Once the chase had ended and a stop had been made, Zimmerman resisted arrest and allegedly kicked Bonney, Devine said.

Devine said Zimmerman was attempting to climb over a fence in a Brockton yard and kicked Bonney in the chest. Both ended up going over the fence where the two wrestled until Bonney was able to get Zimmerman under control and place him under arrest before assistance had responded, Devine said.
Eventually, additional Stoughton Police units and Brockton Police arrived on scene.

Zimmerman is charged with operating under the influence of liquor; failure to stop for a police officer while operating a motor vehicle; reckless operation of a motor vehicle; speeding in violation of a special regulation; marked lanes violation; failure to stop/yield; assault and battery on a police officer; and resisting arrest.
Devine said the end result "speaks to the kind of officer [Bonney] is."
"It speaks to John that he was able to restrain [Zimmerman] on his own without any injury to the two of them," Devine said.
