The Athletics finished the regular season 14-6, beating the Dodgers in the semifinals on the way to the championship. Meanwhile, the Braves were just 2-17-1 in the regular season, but upset the top-seeded Twins, winning the first two games of the best-of-three semifinal series before playing the Athletics in the finals.
