Man Arrested For Trying to Break into Stoughton Home Urinates on Floor of Police Station

A Mattapan man allegedly attempted to break into a Stoughton home in the early morning hours of March 30 to continue a fight which started in Brockton. Once arrested, the man acted "completely belligerent," according to police.

A Mattapan man faces several charges for allegedly attempting to break into a Stoughton home early Saturday morning and for uncooperative behavior once placed under arrest, including urinating in the booking room of the police station.

The alleged incident stems from a fight which started in Brockton, Executive Officer Robert Devine said.

Michael Sherrod, 35, of Arborcrest Terrace in Mattapan, reportedly followed those involved in the fight back to their home in Stoughton on Rogers Drive.

Sherrod then tried to kick the door in, smashing the bottom of the door in, trying to continue the fight, Devine said.

Stoughton Police received a call around 2:30 a.m. on March 30 reporting that someone was trying to break into their home, and received other calls reporting a disturbance in the area.

Sherrod then fled the scene and was stopped by Stoughton Police on Kinsley St.

Devine described Sherrod's behavior as "completely belligerent" after he was in police custody. Sherrod allegedly lied to police about his identity, challenged officers, and urinated on the floor of the booking room at the police station.

Devine said Sherrod's behavior put the police officers at risk, but they "exercised restraint in dealing with him."

"It shows a lot about their character," Devine said of the Stoughton officers.

Sherrod was charged with malicious damage over $250; destruction of property under $250; wanton breaking and entering (nighttime for felony); giving police a false name/social security number; two counts of assault and battery on a police officer; and three counts of witness intimidation.

He also had an outstanding warrant.
