Monday Essentials: Massachusetts Tax Free Weekend 2013
Here's a quick look at what you need to know for the week ahead.

A two-day sales tax holiday in Massachusetts is set for this coming weekend, Saturday, August 10, and Sunday, August 11.
The tax holiday will lift the 6.25 percent levy on most items selling for less than $2,500 this weekend.
Excluded from the tax holiday are restaurant meals, cars, motorboats, tobacco and any item that costs more than $2,500.
Since 2004, the State Legislature has approved a two-day tax holiday in Massachusetts every year, with the exception of 2009.“The sales tax holiday greatly benefits businesses and consumers, especially with families shopping for the new school year. This weekend has become very popular and helps boost sales during a traditionally slow month,” Stoughton's State Representative William C. Galvin (D-Canton) said in a release.
“The sales tax holiday benefits both retailers and consumers, and it says good things about the direction our economy is headed in that we could do it this year,” said Stoughton's State Representative Louis L. Kafka (D-Stoughton).
“I’m happy to support this measure yet again, which encourages consumers to get out and support local businesses and their employees,” Stoughton's State Senator Brian A. Joyce (D-Milton) said in a release. “This annual event has become a good tool for our continued economic recovery.”
