Drunk Driver Arrested in Stoughton Allegedly Urinates on Floor of Police Station, Assaults Officers

She was the "most vulgar" person he's ever dealt with in more than two decades of policing, Stoughton officer Allen Curtis noted in his police report, according to Deputy Chief Robert Devine.

A Taunton woman, Clarissa Garriga, 23, was recently arrested for drunk driving, along with a number of other offenses, following a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of Washington St. and Walnut St. in Stoughton.

Once pulled over by police, Garriga became "completely belligerent," Devine said, including assaulting officers, spitting on them, using racial slurs and urinating on the floor of the police station.

Garriga ultimately was charged with operating under the influence of liquor, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, speeding in violation of a special regulation, following too close, operating a motor vehicle with unnecessary noise, resisting arrest, vandalizing property, threatening to commit a crime, assault and battery, and assault and battery on a police officer.

Honey Dew Donuts in Downtown Stoughton to Close

The Honey Dew Donuts in downtown Stoughton will be closing on July 6, 2013. Owner Gary Lewis said that he couldn't keep it open while waiting for a better location to come along.

"It just kept getting worse. There's the traffic situation. Then, there's businesses like Cheng Du and Pacheco's Hardware that closed down. Customers from there would walk over for a cup of coffee," he said.

Lewis also cited economic conditions, adding, "Taxes go up, and so do costs. But, it's a competitive market. I can't charge a premium because my expenses are higher."

Stoughton's Mo Cowan Delivers Farewell Address on Senate Floor

Interim Senator William “Mo” Cowan, a Democrat from Stoughton, went to the floor of the United States Senate Wednesday afternoon to deliver his farewell address, marking the end of Cowan's brief tenure in the U.S. Senate.

Senator Cowan was appointed to the United States Senate by Governor Deval Patrick on January 30, 2013, to temporarily fill the vacancy when former Massachusetts Senator John Kerry resigned to became Secretary of State.

Massachusetts voters picked Kerry's permanent replacement when a majority backed Democratic Congressman Ed Markey in the June 25th Special Senate Election.

"Not one person was given a chance to vote for or against me but I have gone about my work every day as if they had.  I came to this body beholden to Massachusetts, her residents, and the country only, and leave confident that I have stayed true to that honor," said Cowan, who lives in Stoughton with his wife, Stacy, and their two young sons, Miles and Grant.
