Stoughton Election Guide: Town Election & Special U.S. Senate Primary
Previewing election day in Stoughton - Tuesday, April 30, where voters will head to the polls for both the local town election and Special U.S. Senate Primary.

Both the Annual Stoughton Town Election and the Special State Primary for U.S. Senate .
There will be separate ballots for these two elections, although voters will be able to obtain both ballots at the same time when at their respective precincts.

Polls are open Tuesday, April 30 from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m.
Town Election

Seats on the Board of Selectmen, School Committee, Housing Authority, and Redevelopment Authority, as well as Moderator and Town Meeting Representative are on the ballot.
School Committee is the only contested race, with four candidates - incumbent Joyce Husseini and challengers Dr. Carol Brown, Deb Cote and Pat MacNeil - running for two seats (each 3-year terms).
Fellow incumbent Tom Colburn is not seeking reelection.
T.J. Recupero is the lone candidate for a three-year seat on the Board of Selectmen.
Incumbent, and current chairman of the Board, John Stagnone, is not seeking reelection.
Incumbent Forrest Lindwall is running unopposed for a 5-year term on the Redevelopment Authority and incumbent Howard Hansen is running unopposed for a 1-year term as Moderator.
There is no candidate for Housing Authority, although Barry Crimmins is running a write-in/sticker campaign.
This election cycle, 62 Town Meeting seats need to be filled, but only 24 people are on the ballots, leaving 38 seats open for potential write-in candidates. There are openings in every precinct.
Special Senate Primary
Tuesday's special U.S. Senate primary will decide which candidates will be running in the June 25 special general election to fill the remainder of former Massachusetts Senator John Kerry's term. Kerry is now the U.S. Secretary of State. Stoughton resident Mo Cowan is serving as interim Senator until the special general election.
A pair of Congressmen, Stephen Lynch (who represents Stoughton) and Ed Markey are running in the Democratic Party Primary. Brett Rhyne is running a write-in campaign.
On the Republican side, Gabriel Gomez, Michael Sullivan and Dan Winslow are all running.
