Stoughton Man Arrested on Attempted Murder, Kidnapping Charges After Alleged Abuse of Girlfriend

A Stoughton man faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping, after he repeatedly physically abused his girlfriend, and held her captive in her Bridgewater home for the past month.

A Stoughton man faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping, after he repeatedly physically abused his girlfriend, and held her captive in her Bridgewater home for the past month.

The woman, 50, sought medical attention this past Friday at the Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton, having sustained facial, rib and back fractures, as well as bruising "all over her body," according to a report filed by Bridgewater Police.

Her boyfriend, Mark Crean, 49, of McCormick Terrace in Stoughton, was arrested in Wareham on Friday, and is charged with attempted murder; kidnapping; aggravated domestic assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; two counts of domestic assault and battery; drug to confine; and witness intimidation.

The victim told police that Crean had been drinking at his Stoughton business on April 15 of this year and became "verbally abusive" with her. Arguing continued throughout afternoon, including the ride from Crean's business, Halmark Systems on Page St. in Stoughton, to the victim's home in Bridgewater, according to the police report.

Once at the residence, Crean allegedly violently assaulted and abused his girlfriend over the course of a three-hour period, including throwing her down the stairs; kicking and punching her; and placing a plastic bag over her head multiple times in the attempt to strangle her, the police report states.

When the victim would pass out from the abuse, Crean allegedly would pour a cold beer on her face to make her regain consciousness, according to police.

Crean then bound the victim by her ankles, feet and neck on a couch with coated wire for a period of time. He kept her sedated with narcotics, and did not allow the victim to have any source of communication over the next several weeks without supervision, monitoring and controlling all phone calls and text message interactions, according to the police report.

Crean allegedly denied his girlfriend's repeated requests to seek medical attention.

The police report indicates the victim was treated for a broken nose about a year ago, and Crean was also possibly responsible for this injury.

Following his arrest, Crean was arraigned at Brockton District Court on Friday, May 17, and is being held without bail, 7 News reports. He is due back in court later this week for a dangerousness hearing.
