School Committee Approves Scholarship in Memory of Stoughton High Senior David Wade

The Stoughton School Committee unanimously approved the David James Wade Memorial Scholarship at its meeting Tuesday night. 

Wade, a senior at Stoughton High this school year, tragically died following an accidental shooting at his Turnpike Street home Sept. 29, 2012. 

The scholarship will give 10 of his former classmates financial assistance in continuing their education beyond high school. 

Wade was a lineman on the Stoughton High football team, and was a past cheerleader at SHS.

Following his death, the football team dedicated its season to Wade, which included the emotional 20-0 win over visiting Foxborough the evening of Oct. 5, played just hours after his funeral. His #56 jersey was placed on the team's bench each game for the remainder of the season. The team unanimously voted to posthumously give Wade the most valuable player award at the annual Fall Sports Awards night. 

Each of the 10 scholarships will be for $560, symbolic of Wade's jersey number. 

The scholarship is open to any graduating Stoughton High senior who has been accepted to a two or four year college or university. Applicants for the scholarship must write a brief essay on "What influenced my life to get me to this point and where I am heading from here." 

The Wade family will choose the recipients.
