Stoughton's Kelly Graduates State Firefighting Academy, Joins Stoughton Fire Department

New Stoughton firefighter Andrew Kelly was one of 68 firefighters from 32 different departments across the state to graduate in the 199th class of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy's sixty-day Career Recruit Firefighting Program.

Stoughton Fire Chief Mark Dolloff didn't have to look far for his newest firefighter.

Stoughton native, and current resident, Andrew Kelly joins the SFD after graduating from the State Firefighting Academy.

Kelly was one of 68 firefighters from 32 different departments across the state to graduate in the 199th class of the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy’s sixty-day Career Recruit Firefighting Program.

The ceremony took place last Friday, June 21 at the Department of Fire Services in Stow, MA.

Kelly is a 2004 Stoughton High graduate and lives in town with his wife Nicole and daughter Madison.

His father, Sergeant Major Jim Kelly, helped to present Andrew with his certificate at the graduation ceremony.

Dolloff said Kelly was a "fantastic candidate."

"We always strive to get the best candidates for the job. It's always an added bonus when the top candidate is a resident of the town. They bring a certain connection to the delivery of service to the residents," the Chief said.

Kelly had been a prison guard for the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department, Dolloff said. This will be his first full-time firefighting job.

Kelly will join Group 3 on the Stoughton Fire Department, which is led by Captain Scott Breen.
