Storm Updates: Snowfall Predictions Continue to Increase for Stoughton Area
Updates from the latest snowstorm, which is expected to last throughout Thursday and into Friday afternoon.
Friday, March 8
SNOWFALL TOTALS
Based on nearby snowfall totals posted by the National Weather Service, the Stoughton area has received about 2 feet of snow.
POWER OUTAGES

National Grid is reporting 921 outages in town (about 7.4 percent of the town's customers) as of 5 p.m. on March 8.
More than 800 of these outages are in a large pocket which includes parts of Park St. (Prospect St. to the center), Central St. (Pearl St. to Lincoln St.), Pleasant St. (just beyond Central St. to the center) and Washington St. (Canton line to the center).

Another 110 outages are in a pocket down by Central St. and Bay Rd. nearCobbs Corner.

National Grid said these outages started around 1 p.m. and expects to have power restored by Friday evening.
STORM UPDATES & CANCELATIONS

- The Stoughton Public Library will be open from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday, March 8.
- The Stoughton DPW is picking up trash on Friday.
- The Stoughton Youth Commission's Brazilian Music Concert is cancelled for Friday, March 8. A new date and time is TBA.

- STOYAC recreation league basketball semifinal playoff games scheduled for Saturday, March 9 have been postponed. Makeup date TBA.
FORECAST
Snowfall predictions continue to increase for the Stoughton area.
7 News has the Stoughton area receiving between 12 and 18 inches of snow. But, it could be more - this area is close to the border of a pocket 7 News predicts will receive up to 24 inches.
This of course is a far cry from the 1 to 3 inches that was predicted as recently as Wednesday afternoon.
A Winter Storm Warning is in place until 1 p.m. on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. The storm will wind down Friday afternoon.

Thursday, March 7
FORECAST
Late Wednesday afternoon, forecasts indicated this area would see a lingering winter storm last all of Thursday into Friday afternoon, but the total snowfall would be minimal - maybe 1 to 3 inches.
While the timing of the storm has stayed the same - this storm is not expected to wind down until the afternoon hours on Friday - the predicted snow totals have increased for this area.
The Stoughton area could see upwards of 6 inches of snow, and maybe as much as 10 inches according to 7 News. WBZ predicts 4 to 8 inches.
The Stoughton area is under a Winter Storm Warning until 1 p.m. on Friday.
Temperatures are expected to reach the mid 40s during the weekend, and sunshine is expected, so brighter days are ahead.
CANCELATIONS
All schools will be dismissed at the normal early release time Thursday, March 7.
Due to the weather conditions, however, all afterschool and evening activities, including elementary parent-teacher conferences, are canceled.
The MAJE Festival, which was supposed to be held at Stoughton High Thursday afternoon and evening, will now be held on Tuesday, March 12.
No decision has been made yet about whether there will be school on Friday, according to Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Marguerite Rizzi.
POWER OUTAGES
According to the National Grid outage map, as of 11:40 a.m. on Thursday, there were 25 outages in town, down from 729 earlier on Thursday (about 6 percent of the town's customers).
These outages were mostly confined to neighborhoods in the Sumner St. area between Park St. and Washington St. in South Stoughton.
The O'Donnell Middle School lost power earlier on Thursday, but it was restored.
During the outage, a generator was running and temporary lighting was setup in the school, according to a post on the Stoughton Public Schools website.
