West Elementary School Likely Getting A New Name

The committee is expected to take a vote this week on naming the school after the late Richard L. "Dick" Wilkins.

STOUGHTON, MA — West Elementary School is expected to get a new name at Tuesday's school committee meeting.

The committee is expected to take a vote this week on naming the school after the late Richard L. "Dick" Wilkins, who was the principal of the school for 37 years. Wilkins passed away suddenly at the age of 84 last November.

Last month, members of the Stoughton Public School community gave testimony about why they believe the school should be named after Wilkins. The vote to consider the name change was placed on Tuesday's agenda to give residents time to become aware of the proposal.
