2 Positive Coronavirus Cases In Wakefield

The Health Department expects the number of cases to increase as testing becomes more widely available.

WAKEFIELD, MA — The Wakefield Health Department learned March 23 that a resident tested positive for COVID-19, the illness associated with the coronavirus. This is the second known positive case in Wakefield, health officials said.

Wakefield Health Director Ruth Clay said more positive cases are expected.

"As more tests are performed, more positive cases can be identified," Clay said in a statement. "As of March 22 at 4 p.m., there were 646 confirmed cases in Massachusetts. That’s a jump of 121 from the previous day’s report."
