Please join us for International Folk Dancing at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading.
Marcie Van Cleave, director of Folk Arts Center of New England, will teach us easy dances from around the world on Fridays from 12:30 - 2:15 pm from January 9, 2026 through March 27, 2026.
No experience necessary! All dances are taught. Newcomers are always welcome.&nbsp;Learn easy dances from Israel, France, Romania, Bolivia, England, Ukraine, United States, Sweden, and more.&nbsp; Fun, fellowship, music and movement indoors during the cold winter months.


If you can get yourself in the door, “the rest is easy.” Come alone or bring friends. Suggested donation of $10 or $15 per day helps cover the expenses of the series. No advance registration required. 
Dances are held in Fellowship Hall at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Reading, 239 Woburn St., Reading, MA. Please use the Summer Ave. entrance. The building is fully accessible. It's so easy -&nbsp;pack your books in boxes or bags and put them into your car, drive into the&nbsp;parking lot of the Hurd school (27 Cordis St, enter via Pleasant St) and we'll unload them for you. &nbsp;We can't accept textbooks, encyclopedias or worn out books (musty, torn or chewed covers, highlighted or underlined text). &nbsp;Books will be sold at the Friends of the Beebe Library's annual book sale in mid-May.&nbsp; When you put holiday things away, it is a great time to donate older items.....we would love your books and your support as we enter a new year of providing funds for Beebe Library.

Galapagos puppets and the Jimmy Zhao Chinese Music Ensemble presents"The Ice River: a Journey to the West” Journeying to India, Monk Tang and his disciples Monkey, Pig, and Sha-jing have just found a quiet temple to rest in when they learn that a powerful river monster has been demanding all the food in the area, year after year.Searching for the. Surprising secret of the monster’s formidable power takes the disciples over the Ice River, down to the bottom, and up to the heavens.
Madeline Beresford and Margaret Moody use traditional Bu Dal Xi puppets and choreography in their lively presentation of this episode fro the classic Chinese Tale, Journey to the west. Jimmy Zhao and his daughter will improvise music to accompany the show with Chinese percussion, erhu, bamboo flute, and guzheng.

Galapagos Puppets are excited to present the classic Chinese tale, The Ice River to Wakefield on Sunday, January 11, 2026 at2pm. It is a tale those 5 to 95 will enjoy. This community performance is being held at Temple Emmanuel of Wakefield at 120 Chestnut St. 
Journeying to India, Monk Tang and his disciples Monkey, Pig, and Sha-jing have just found a quiet temple to rest in when they learn that a powerful river monster has been demanding all the food in the area, year after year..Searching for the surprising secret of the monster’s formidable power takes the disciples over the Ice River, down to the bottom, and up to the heavens.
Since 1987 Madeline Beresford and Margaret Moody have performed folk, history and fantasy stories through<a href="https://galapagospuppets.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Galapago Puppets</a>. Margaret met Madeleine, a dynamic theater and visual artist, while they were students at Oberlin College. In the 1980s they studied Chang Chung Hsi puppetry in Taiwan with Master Li Tien-lu and the I Wan Jan Traditional Hand Puppet Troupe in Taiwan. They have performed two episodes of the Chinese epic JourneytotheWest with lively Taiwanese puppets, and now premiere a third, “The Ice River.”They use traditional Bu Dal Xi puppets and choreography in their lively presentation of this episode from the classic Chinese Tale, Journey to the West. Jimmy Zhao and his daughter will improvise music to accompany the show with Chinese percussion, erhu, bamboo flute, and guzheng.
After the 45-minute show we will lead a hands-on puppet demonstration.

OVERVIEW Nearly three years ago, generative AI arrived, challenging all of us (educators, students, and parents) to engage with a rapidly evolving technology with little insight into the role and impact it would have on education. While the promise of generative AI is significant, its pace of change and uncertainty around the cognitive impact on learners often makes its impact on learning feel like a perpetually moving target.
This event is designed to move beyond the headlines and help you understand what meaningful use of AI looks like in your child’s education. With a crucial balance of agency and healthy skepticism, our target is to identify both the risks and opportunities of the technology, while recognizing that we are early in both the maturity of the technology and the impact on teaching and learning.
Presented by Greg Kulowiec, founder of The Kulowiec Group, who speaks from the dual lens of a parent and an educator, the session is designed to help parents walk away with a practical understanding of the technology and improved strategies to have meaningful conversations around the technology at home.
