5 Things, Oct. 9: Board of Health Meeting, Hydrant Flushing and a Pajama Storytime

1. 50% Chance of Precipitation Tuesday
The National Weather Service calls for a chance of showers Tuesday. Patchy fog before 1 p.m. Otherwise, cloudy, with a high near 57. Northeast wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Patchy fog after 7p.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 46. North wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

2. Hydrant Flushing Begins Today
The annual hydrant flushing and testing program will begin Tuesday, Oct. 9 and will continue over the next several weeks throughout Walpole.

The hours of operation will be 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. depending on the particular area.
Some discoloration and disturbance of the water in the area of work may occur while the program is in progress and consumers should check the clarity of their water prior to use.
In the event that rust or sediment is present, wait approximately 2 hours for any disturbance that was caused by the flushing to settle and run the cold water faucet nearest the water meter until it is clear.
The Water Department warns not to run the hot water until the cold water is clear.

3. Walpole Board of Health to Meet Today
- The Walpole Board of Health will meet at 7:30 p.m. in Room 112 at the Town Hall. On the agenda will be a discussion about changing the tobacco purchase age in Walpole. There will also be a discussion by the board about medical marijuana and how its legalization could affect Walpole and its residents.

4. Pajama Storytime at Walpole Library
The Walpole Library, in conjuction with the Walpole Coordinated Family & Community Engagement Program, will feature an evening storytime at 6:30 p.m. Kids are encouraged to wear pajamas while they listen to a story and participate in a craft. This program is open to all. Drop-ins are welcome.
