6 Walpole Runners Cross Boston Marathon Finish Line Prior to Explosion

Walpole's Michael St. George was the last town resident to cross the finish line, arriving in Copley Square less than three minutes (2:47 p.m.) before the first explosion at 2:50 p.m.

Tragedy marred the 117th Boston Marathon as two explosions near the marathon’s finish line at Copley Square killed at least three people and injured over 140 more.

Six Walpole residents running in this year’s marathon were able to cross the finish line prior to the explosions, according to the Boston Athletic Association.

James J. Egan was the first Walpole resident to cross the finish line, arriving in Copley Square at 1:48 p.m. Egan finished with an unofficial net time of 03:27:30 to place 7,734. David Reavill was next, crossing the finish line at 2:02 p.m. with an unofficial net time of 03:39:42 to place 11,180. Una Corrigan finished at 2:06 p.m. with a time of 03:42:50 – good for 12,046th place.

Fiona Murphy finished next at 2:13 p.m. with an unofficial net time of 03:47:17 to place 13,139. Maureen A. Larkin followed at 2:29 p.m. with an unofficial net time of 03:47:36 to place 13,223.

Michael St. George was the last resident to cross the finish line, arriving in Copley Square less than three minutes (2:47 p.m.) before the first explosion at 2:50 p.m. St. George finished the marathon in 15,937th place with an unofficial net time of 03:59:18.

Of Walpole’s 20 residents running the marathon, 13 made it to the 30K checkpoint in Newton and eight made it to the 40K checkpoint in Kenmore Square before they were informed the race had been suspended due to the explosions at Copley Square.

Meghan Aldridge, Timothy Bailey, Judy Conroy, James W. Dugdale and Michele C. McCullough made it to the 30K checkpoint before the marathon ended.

Daniel F. Coughlin, Sue Ledwith, Lisa Morrissey, Jeff M. Mahoney, Thomas Quinn, Brandon Simpson, Amy Sparks and John Stadtler ended the marathon near the Kenmore Square checkpoint while Patrick Kemple did not record any times Monday.
