Walpole Boy to Shave Head for Kids Cancer with Rob Gronkowski

Hundreds of men, women and children like 10-year-old Walpole resident Declan Buckley will join New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski in “buzzing” their heads to help honor and support the many brave and hopeful children that struggle with pediatric cancer every day.

 As we know – and some have very unfortunately experienced – nothing is more devastating than having a child diagnosed with cancer. In 2013, more than 10,000 children will heartbreakingly suffer through this statistic.

Buckley has pledged to courageously shave his head for his fourth consecutive year at One Mission’s Kid’s Cancer Buzz-Off  - held at Gillette Stadium on June 9^th - in order to show solidarity for children that have undergone pediatric cancer-related treatments.

“[Buckley] is very excited to shave his head again to help put an end to pediatric cancer,” Lindsay Rotondi, vice president of Regan Communications Group in Boston. 

Buckley will be buzzing in honor of his friend, Patrick Melavin, who has battled liver cancer and in memory of his cousin, Joe Kelly, who very unfortunately passed of a brain tumor last year. Buckley will be joined by fellow “buzzee,” Gronkowski and many other caring families, friends and supporters who have been both directly and indirectly affected by pediatric cancer.

One Mission, a childhood cancer foundation, is dedicated to enhancing the lives of pediatric cancer patients and their families.

The foundation provides help, hope, care and support to children and their families touched by pediatric cancer. One Mission’s goal is to help children and their families cope with the many physical, emotional, and financial challenges associated with this disease.

In three short years, the Kid’s Cancer Buzz-Off has raised nearly $1 million to benefit Boston Children’s Hospital’s pediatric cancer patients and their families. The goal of this year’s event is to shave 800 heads while raising $1 million more One Mission, one of the largest community supporters of Boston Children’s Hospital, graciously funds over 60 percent of the programs and services offered including hosting activities such as yoga, meditation and game nights as well as providing financial assistance to their parents.
