Walpole Football Still Climbing in Polls, Field Hockey No. 2

Last week we checked-in on how Walpole's varsity football and field hockey teams were doing in local polls.

This week the Walpole football team has moved up in their rankings while the Porkers field hockey squad holds fast at No. 2 in the state. Both teams have yet to lose a game this season.

The Rebels varsity football team has moved up to No. 5 in ESPNBoston.com's Top 25 rankings. They were ranked 6th a week ago. Ahead of them now are Barnstable, Everett, St. John's Prep and Reading, in that order.

In Boston.com's Globe Top 20 poll, Walpole moves up a notch from No. 7 to the sixth best team in the state.

Walpole (7-0) handed Bay State Conference challenger Needham (5-2) their second loss of the season in a 31-0 blowout of the Rockets.

The Orange and Blue have one of the best point differentials in the state at 276-37. That's good for an average score of 39.4-5.2 through seven games. They also have four shutouts on the season, including three in a row.

The girls field hockey team has simply dominated all opponents this season with an overall record of 16-0 and a Bay State Conference record of 13-0.

The Porkers sit in the second spot of the Globe's Top 20 for the second straight week. The No. 1 ranked team is Watertown with an identical 16-0 record overall.

Last week the girls picked up wins against Milton and Dedham.

They have outscored their opponents 99-4 so far this season.

The girls will be on the road Tuesday against Norwood at 3:45 p.m.

The Rebel football team travels to Newton North for a Saturday game at 1 p.m.
