Walpole Obituary: Ralph E. Knobel

Ralph E. Knobel of Walpole, MA died February 2, 2013 after a short illness; he was 82.

Husband of 60 years of Rosemarie V. Knobel. Father of Philip Knobel of Easton, MA, Paul Knobel of Oregon, Peter Knobel of Walpole, and Steve Knobel of Colorado. He also leaves three grandchildren: Max Knobel, Christina Knobel and Lisa Knobel.

A graduate of Tufts University School of Engineering, the majority of Ralph’s career was that of an entrepreneur owning part or all of various small businesses generally in the manufacturing industry.

Besides being an avid Bruins, Red Sox and Patriots fan, Ralph devoted most of his recent efforts toward Adams Farm and was one of many leaders who convinced the Town of Walpole to purchase that property. He was dedicated to preserving the idyllic environment that is Adams Farm for future generations to enjoy. He served as an associate member and secretary of the Adams Farm Committee which oversees the use and maintenance of the Farm. He was also the president of the Friends of Adams Farm, the fundraising arm of the Adams Farm Committee which raises money for the maintenance and enhancement of the Farm property. His efforts were recognized in 2007 when the rebuilt barn on the property was dedicated in his name.

In addition to his volunteer work on Adams Farm, Ralph was a Town Meeting representative, compiled the Walpole Town Report for many years, and spent 23 years as a member of the Walpole Finance Committee where he was known for being a staunch advocate for public safety.

Private arrangements have been made. The family is planning to host a springtime gathering in Ralph’s honor at Adams Farm on a date to be determined.
