Walpole Runners: Boston Marathon Updates and Results

Twenty Walpole residents are expected to run the 117th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 15 from Hopkinton to Copley Square.

Editor's note: All results are unofficial.

Today is the running of the 117th Boston Marathon and Walpole is well represented with 20 residents registered and expected to participate in the grueling 26.22-mile run from Hopkinton to Copley Square, Boston.

The 117th Boston Marathon starts Monday at 9 a.m when mobility-impaired racers launch themselves down East Main Street in Hopkinton at the sound of the starter's pistol.

From Hopkinton through Ashland, Framingham, Natick, Wellesley, Newton, Brookline and into Boston's Copley Square 26.2 miles away, racers pursue their goals of individual accomplishment for most, Boston Marathon victory for the few, and the forever thrill of saying "I did it!" for all.

  • The Push-Rim Wheelchair Division starts at 9:17 a.m.
  • The Handcycle start is at 9:22 a.m.
  • The Elite Women start at 9:32 a.m.
  • The Elite Men and the First Wave start at 10 a.m.
  • The Second Wave starts at 10:20 a.m.
  • The Third Wave starts at 10:40 a.m.
  • Awards Ceremony starts at 5 p.m.

Then it's see you at the finish line or see you next year. After the Hopkinton start, some folks will travel down Route 495, onto the Mass. Turnpike and brave the Boston crowds to congratulate and comfort loved ones after they cross the finish line.

Many other spectators will return home. And the itch to run, maybe next year, might lead them to start an exercise regimen, find a charity that needs runners, and train through the harsh New England winter for the 118th Boston Marathon in April 2014.

As results for our Walpole runners become available, we will post them here throughout the day. Here is the current Walpole registrant list from the Boston Athletic Association:
