What's Open, Closed on Labor Day

Labor Day: What's open and closed in Walpole on Monday, September 3.

Labor Day is held on the first Monday in September each year.

Unofficially the last day of summer, the holiday, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, "constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country."

  • Supermarkets
  • Restaurants
  • Convenience stores
  • Bars/Taverns
  • Gyms/Health Clubs
  • Call ahead before heading to any of the above establishments to confirm they are open. Many retail stores or gyms/health clubs may be operating on a Sunday schedule or with limited hours.

  • Banks 
  • No Mail Delivery - All U.S post offices are closed
  • Stock Market
  • Federal Offices
  • State Offices
  • Town Hall and municipal offices ()
  • Schools (Walpole Public School and Norfolk Aggie High School will open for the 2012-13 school year Thursday, Sept. 6)
  • Libraries ()
  • The Walpole Council on Aging

No Trash Pickup on Labor Day in Walpole

On Monday, Sept. 3, there will be no curbside trash collection in observance of Labor Day.

Trash collection will be delayed one (1) day for Labor Day, with Friday's collection on Saturday.

This is standard procedure for any holiday. All rubbish and recyclables must be curbside by 7 a.m. on your collection day.
