Coronavirus in Waltham: Cases Rise To 322

WALTHAM, MA — The number of people who have tested positive for the new coronavirus in Waltham rose to 322 Wednesday. Four people died in Waltham, according to city data. The number of residents who died could be higher, according to the city.

"If a Waltham resident dies in a different city we are not notified right away and if we do not speak with the next of kin or someone from the hospital we cannot say if a death is confirmed," the city posted to its website. "Waltham will not get a death certificate on a Waltham resident who passes away in a different city, the city clerk will be able to get a copy of a death certificate of someone from Waltham who passes away in a different city as long as the last known address was Waltham. Waltham Health Department signs off on death certificates if the individual passes away IN Waltham."

As of Wednesday 29,918 people across the commonwealth had tested positive for the virus, and 1,108 people had died. The majority of cases were situated in Middlesex Country, according to state data. And nearly 48 percent of those who had died in the state were deaths reported at long-term health facilities.
