Cyanobacteria Algae Present In Waltham's Hardy Pond, Officials Say
Exposure to the toxic algae is unsafe for people and pets. Here's what to know.
WALTHAM, MA — City officials have notified the public of the presence of a harmful algae at a local pond.
"Please note that harmful cyanobacteria algae is currently present in Hardy Pond. Exposure to this toxic algae is unsafe for people and pets," Waltham officials said.
Hardy Pond is located within Waltham's Lakeview neighborhood. All residents and visitors should avoid the following:

- Swimming
- Jet ski or boat activity
- Swallowing the water
- Fishing or consuming fish from the pond
- Letting animals near or in the water
If you or a pet come in contact with the water, it's advised you rinse as soon as possible to prevent possible exposure, officials said.
