Hearing Soon for Proposed Cat Shelter
The new shelter would be located on Lexington Street.

A public hearing will be held on Tuesday, May 28 to review and discuss a proposed zoning change that would allow the former north Waltham Library to be converted into a cat shelter, according to the group.
Waltham-based Cat Connection has proposed converting the building, which sits next to the John F. Kennedy Middle School on Lexington Street, into a cat rehabilitation shelter. The proposal comes after the group stopped accepting new foster cats this year because it did not have enough foster families or a shelter.
The hearing begins at 8 p.m. at City Hall. The group is asking for residents' support.

"So we need your help: please attend the meeting and let the councilors know that Waltham residents support this change. Even if you don't live in Waltham, your presence at the meeting will still help us immensely," the group said on its website. "We know everyone is very busy, but we beg you to come to City Hall and support the need for a change to the zoning laws. This is a big step in our campaign to get a cat shelter. We fear that if the Councilors don't see the City Council gallery full, it will be our last."
The group services, Waltham, Newton, Belmont, Watertown, Allston and Brighton.
