WALTHAM, MA — Heavy traffic delays are expected in Waltham Friday as crews continue to repair issues caused by last weekend’s electrical surge, police said.

The most significant delays are expected on Main Street from Sheridan Road to Stow Street and at Prospect Street Bridge.

Drivers are asked to avoid these areas and seek alternate routes until further notice.

Electrical surges wreaked havoc in Waltham on Saturday, Oct. 15, causing transformer fires, producing smoke in buildings, and leaving multiple traffic signals inoperative. This week, Eversource has been working to make repairs and restore power throughout the city.

The cause of the surges remains under investigation.
