Moody Street 5K 2019: Results, Photos
This was the ninth year of the road race. And it happened to fall on Cinco De Mayo.
WALTHAM, MA — The 9th annual Moody Street 5k drew more than 1,000 people, Sunday, May 5. The road race, part of a larger race series in Waltham, kicked off at noon with runners starting and finishing at the Moody Street bridge. The proceeds from the race go to the Waltham Public Schools. The rain held off, and it was perfect running weather for a quick 3.1 miles up Moody Street and over and back along the river.
Running it in half the time most take to run a 5k, Prescott Leach, of Waltham came in first running the race in 15 minutes 42 seconds. When one runner spotted him racing back as she was heading into her second mile, this reporter heard her comment "Wow. that's fast," and then she cheered him;"Andele andele: Cinco de Mayo!"
And she was right, he was running a pace of about 5 minutes 3 seconds. Let that sink in a moment.
