The man badly injured in Thursday morning's fire sustained "very serious" injuries and is likely facing a long recovery, according to the Waltham Fire Department.
Firefighters identified the man as the occupant of the 83 Hall St. multi-family home that caught fire at around 7:55 a.m. on Thursday. He sustained "very serious"injuries and second and third degree burns along with smoke inhalation injuries, Waltham Fire Deputy Chief Mike Quinn said. The victim was taken to Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston and no further info was available on his condition, Quinn said,
When firefighters arrived, they saw smoke coming from a third floor window, Quinn said. The man's roommates had already hauled him from his third floor bedroom, where the fire began, to a second floor room. Firefighters extricated the man from the second floor, Quinn said.
The man's roommates who assisted him escaped the house wit no injuries, Quin said. The roommates had doused the fire by the time firefighters arrived, Quinn said.
The house sustained around $4,000 in damages from smoke and water, Quinn said.
The cause of the fire is being investigated, but Quinn said it did not appear suspicious. The State Fire Marshal's office is assisting in the investigation, Quinn said.
