New Luxury Apartments/Bank For Waltham?

A large luxury apartment complex and retail building has been proposed for the intersection of Main and Moody Streets, according to Waltham Traffic Commission documents. 

The development would include 277 luxury apartments and 29,000 square feet of retail space at the 1 Moody St. complex and several surrounding buildings, according to Waltham Traffic Commission documents. It would also include a bank and possibly a restaurant.

The Commission is scheduled to discuss the traffic impacts of the project during its Wednesday, Dec. 19 meeting at 10 a.m. at City Hall. 

The three buildings currently on the site would be demolished, Waltham Traffic Engineer J. Michael Garvin wrote in a memo to the Commission. Those include the 1 Moody St. office building, the Citizens Bank building and 55 Moody St., according to Garvin's memo.

• The current driveways would be combined into four -- two facing Main Street and two facing Charles Street. 
• A traffic study concluded that current traffic conditions can support the additional traffic the site would draw.
• The complex would include 388 parking spaces including 300 in an underground garage that would be built as part of the project.
• A left turn lane would be created to turn left from Main Street into the northwest driveway. 
• The median currently on Main Street would be extended to prohobit left turns into or out of the northeast driveway.
• Eight new metered parking spaces would be installed on Main Street in front of the complex. 
• A new MBTA bus stop would be created on Main Street.
• Push buttons at surrounding crosswalks would be updated to meet handicapped-accesiblity standards. 
• A new video camera would be installed at the intersection of Main and Bacon Streets to detect the presence of traffic.
