Waltham Firefighters Fight Fire Near Cooper Street Construction
Waltham Fire Department officials said the fire was a relatively small, outdoor fire and the new construction was not impacted.

WALTHAM, MA — Just after 6 p.m. Wednesday night, firefighters raced to Cooper Street to fight a fire - two years after the city's largest fire in recent memory. But this one was very different. Flames broke out between the river and the construction project near Cooper Street and the fire was contained to some tree and grass, according to a department spokesperson.
"Fire appears to have been at a tree that was involved next to the construction site," said Waltham Fire Department's Lt. Scott Perry.
Often constructions sites will place hay down to deal with mud and that may have been a factor, too. The deputy fire chief called for someone to inspect nearby wires to see if that had anything to do with it.
