Watertown City Council Votes To Purchase Land In Waltham
The Watertown City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to make a deposit on a property that includes a small part of Waltham.

WALTHAM, MA — The Watertown City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to make a deposit on a property that includes a small part of Waltham, reported Watertown News.
The Council approved a transfer of $100,000 from the City Council Reserve to the Acquisition of Land account, money that will be used to purchase the 6.67-acre parcel that includes Walker’s Pond.
Formerly owned by Raytheon, the land sits mostly on west side of Watertown between Waltham Street and Pleasant Street, but about 0.47 acres sits in Waltham.

In order for one municipality to purchase land in another, a Home Rule Petition must be approved by state legislature.
According to State House News, the home rule petition that allows Watertown's purchase to proceed was approved Thursday.

If everything goes as planned, the area will be used for public open space and recreation space, said Watertown City Manager George Proakis.
