Waltham Lexington Street Project Gets New Detour
Traffic will be altered in Waltham for up to 10 weeks as the water main pipeline project moves forward.

WALTHAM, MA — Drivers near the Lexington and Waltham line will need to plan accordingly for the next eight to 10 weeks as a continuing project will alter traffic.
The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is continuing work on new water main pipelines, with the project moving into its next phase on Monday.
Lexington Street southbound between Concord Avenue and the Waltham line will only be open for local travel for the next eight to 10 weeks. There will be no southbound access past the Watertown Savings Bank, officials said.

A detour will be in place to help private vehicles west along Concord AVenue to Spring Street and Smith Street, then south along Smith Street to Trapelo Road, then east onto Trapelo Road, where drivers are able to turn south onto Lexington Street.
Commercial trucks, however, will be detoured to Hayden Avenue then onto Spring Street.

Work hours are expected to be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., but the detour will be in place 24 hours a day due to the size and location of the trench needed to install the new pipeline, officials said.
