Waltham, Newton Rep. John Lawn Endorses Mara Dolan For Gov.’s Council

Dolan is challenging incumbent Marilyn Petito Devaney in the September 6 Democratic primary.

WALTHAM, MA — State Rep. John Lawn has endorsed public defender Mara Dolan for Governor’s Council, District 3.

Lawn represents the 10th Middlesex District, which includes Watertown, Waltham, and Newton.

The Governor's Council is made up of eight elected Councilors who vet and vote on judicial nominations, commutations and pardons, and members of the Parole Board. Dolan seeks the Democratic nomination for District 3, which includes parts of Boston, all of Arlington, Brookline, Newton, Waltham, and her hometown of Concord among its 32 cities and towns.

“Our courts are on the front lines of the opiate crisis,” Lawn said in a statement. “Mara’s experience working in our court system as a public defender gives her the insight and expertise needed to make sure our judicial system is doing everything possible to tackle the opiate crisis.”

“Rep. Lawn has made fighting the opiate crisis one of his top priorities,” Dolan said in a statement. “I will make sure all nominees, whether for a judicial appointment or for the Parole Board, respect the science of addiction and are committed to supporting recovery. I am very honored to have the endorsement of Rep. Lawn and know how much it will mean to voters in Watertown, Waltham, and Newton.”

Dolan is challenging incumbent Marilyn Petito Devaney in the Democratic primary, which will take place on September 6.

In addition to Lawn, Dolan has been endorsed by Waltham Rep. Tom Stanley, Sen. Will Brownsberger, Rep. Michelle Ciccolo, Arlington Sen. Cindy Friedman, and Senate Assistant Majority Leader Mike Barrett.
