Waltham Speed Limits Are Changing. Here's Where

At least 14 new speed limit signs are being posted across the city after city officials completed recent roadway studies.

WALTHAM, MA — Waltham drivers will need to take an extra moment to check their speed in the coming days.

City officials announced that a number of speed limits have been updated, and new signage is being posted throughout Waltham.

According to officials, Section 193 of Chapter 218 of the Acts of 2016 allows cities or towns to the chance to "set the reasonable and proper speed on municipally-owned streets within thickly settled or business districts at 25 mph."

The City of Waltham Traffic Commission, along with the Traffic Engineering Department, have spent months doing speed studies of roadways in Waltham, officials said, resulting in the new changes.

Some roads already have new signage, but those that don't will have updated speed limit signs within the coming days.

At least 14 instances of new signage will be present, including:

  • Forest St at 35 MPH
  • Lexington St, southbound, from School St to Main St 25 MPH
  • Lexington St, from School St to Totton Pond Rd 30 MPH
  • Lexington St, from Totton Pond Rd to Lake St 35 MPH
  • Lexington St, from Lake St to the Lexington town line 30 MPH
  • Bear Hill Road/ Second Ave 30 MPH and 35 MPH
  • Beaver St, from Lexington St to Forest St 30 MPH
  • Beaver St, from Forest St Waverley Oaks Rd 35 MPH
  • Beaver St, from Waverley Oaks Rd to Warren St 30 MPH
  • Main St, Weston Line Prospect Hill Rd 35 MPH
  • Main St, from Prospect Hill Rd to Linden St 25 MPH
  • Main St, from Linden St to Watertown Line 35 MPH
  • South St, from Weston town line (6600 feet north from Weston town line) 35 MPH
  • South St, from 6600 feet North of Weston town line to Weston St 30 MPH

Officials said when this process is complete there will be signage around Waltham advising drivers of all the new speed limits throughout the city.
