What Should Waltham Do With the Fernald Land?
The city held another round of community discussions Wednesday night.
Waltham, MA – Waltham held yet another community meeting Wednesday on the use of the Walter E. Fernald Center, the nearly 200-acre property acquired by the city in late 2014.
According to the Waltham News Tribune, work has begun on either documenting or demolishing the more than 75 buildings on the Fernald property as city officials ponder how to best utilize the land.
Waltham Historical Commission member Alex Green told the Tribune that the commission is in the process of receiving $75,000 in funding for a historic survey that will delve into the center's historical layout.

The aim of the survey is to give residents, engineers and officials the best understanding of how to maximize the site's potential going forward.
While the begins work on the land, its residents have suggested a number of different uses for it, ranging from extra beds for those seeking substance abuse treatment to a cemetery, the Tribune reported.
