First Parish In Wayland

The Massachusetts Water Resources Authority (<a href="https://www.mwra.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">MWRA</a>) recently proposed a <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2025/10/30/science/proposal-to-allow-sewage-into-charles-river/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">plan</a> that would allow for sewage to continue to be dumped into the Charles River forever. During a meeting with its Board of Directors, MWRA officials presented multiple options for addressing combined sewer overflows (CSOs in the Charles, and recommended adopting the option leading to the least amount of sewage reduction. After public outcry, the proposal was pulled from the MWRA’s Nov. 19th agenda. According to an MWRA spokesperson quoted in <a href="https://www.bostonglobe.com/2025/11/14/metro/mwra-board-vote-sewage-charles-tabled/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">The Boston Globe</a>, “…it will be considered at a future board meeting after further information is gathered.”
During this webinar, <a href="https://www.crwa.org/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Charles River Watershed Association</a> Executive Director Emily Norton will explain what the proposed plan entails, why the board should reject it, and what you can do to influence the board’s vote.

The presentation features the winter night skies, including the Orion nebula complex, and the summer skies, where the Milky Way reigns supreme. Chuck welcomes an interactive discussion with his audience on how his images were captured and processed.
Chuck took up photography as a way to capture and preserve the splendor of what he was privileged to witness as he ventured across the planet during his career with a global company. He hails from the American Southwest... a region well-known for its bright, starry nights.

Wayland's New COA Center

All Wayland residents, and especially those living anywhere near Rice Road, are encouraged to attend In Person what may well be the final hearing of Wayland's Planning Board and Conservation Committee regarding the Coptic Church's plans to build a huge diocesan Headquarters at 169 Rice Road over the course of 10-15 years. Rice Road is Wayland's longest historic, scenic road, located in the Hamlen/Mainstone Farm conservation area where walkers and bikers navigate a narrow and dangerous curve. &nbsp;The Church's demolition and construction plans will materially impact all neighbors and rural roads nearby, as well as the abundance of wildlife. &nbsp;Noise, lighting, water/septic run-off, the removal of more than 700 trees, and traffic from construction vehicles, as well as nearly 600 future congregants who will use the facilities 7 days a week, are under consideration, as well as the Church's claims of immunity due to the Dover Amendment. &nbsp;The joint meeting is scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm in the new COA facility opposite the entrance to Russell Nursery on Route 20. &nbsp;If you cannot attend in person, you can find a Zoom link on the Town's website. &nbsp;The Church expects to receive a final decision by the end of this year.
