2 New Officers Join Westborough Police Department

WESTBOROUGH, MA—Westborough Police Department welcomed two new officers, officially, on Tuesday to its force.

New members Daryl Jones and William Kearney were sworn in at the Board of Selectmen meeting.

"Please join us in providing our new officers a proper welcome," wrote police.

Jones is a long-term Shrewsbury resident, and married with two children. He has a Bachelor's degree in criminal justice. He worked at University of Massachusetts Police Department in Worcester for 22 years, starting his career as a dispatcher and ringing through the ranks to Detective Sergeant.

"Daryl comes to the Westborough Police Department with extensive experience and training he received throughout his career," said Lt. Glenn McLeod from the Grafton Police Department.

Kearney is a long-term Northborough resident actively working toward earning his degree in criminal justice, and graduated from the Plymouth Police Academy.

"He is proudly following in the footsteps of his grandfather, aunt and uncles into the honorable profession of law enforcement," McLeod told Patch.

Kearney was also employed by the University of Massachusetts Police Department in Worcester for the last two years.

"He also brings with him valuable experience and training earned while working at UMass Police," said McLeod.

Both officers worked together at University of Massachusetts Police Department in Worcester. Both are currently participating in the Westborough Police Department's Field Training Officer Program. In this program, new officers are paired up with veteran officers that train and evaluate the new employees. Field Training Officers receive specialty training to be certified as training officers.
