2 Rescued From Roof Of Burning Building During Westborough Fire

The building, which contained apartments and a restaurant, saw $1 million in damage, authorities said.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — Two people were rescued from the roof of a burning building during an overnight fire in Westborough, according to authorities.

Emergency personnel were called shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday to a structure on South Street near Brigham Street and arrived to find heavy fire in the back of the building and two residents who had been trapped on the roof while trying to escape, authorities said.

Firefighters used ground ladders to rescue the people from the building, which contained apartments and a restaurant, according to authorities. The blaze was under control by about 2:40 a.m., authorities said.

There were no reported injuries but the incident left the structure with about $1 million in damage, according to authorities, who are investigating the cause of the fire.

Agencies from Southborough, Northborough, Shrewsbury, Grafton, Upton, Framingham and Hopedale assisted the Westborough Fire Department during its response.
