​BIA-MA Hosts Clinical Brain Injury Education Training

From BIA-MA: The Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts (BIA-MA) is pleased to announce the return of Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Clinical Continuing Education Training on January 26-27, to be held at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

With recent news headlines showing increases in brain injury, many service providers and staff serving the community mental health population have identified a need for specialized training with respect to ABIs. Collaborating with experts in the brain injury field, BIA-MA developed the Acquired Brain Injury Clinical Continuing Education Program. It is designed for professionals that provide support and services to individuals with ABI and their families, aiming to enhance their knowledge, skills, and experience.

This two-day training program will provide participants with a comprehensive overview of ABIs, their consequences, and recommended interventions. This training is designed as a foundational platform for learners and is recommended as a prerequisite to other advanced ABI education training.

This event will be led by Francesca LaVecchia, Ph.D., a senior-level clinician with more than 40 years’ experience in clinical neuropsychology, rehabilitation, and neurobehavioral treatment. LaVecchia has previously served as the Chief Neuropsychologist for the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC), and is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Boston University’s School of Medicine as a member of Behavioral Neuroscience doctoral program core faculty.

The Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts is the first and oldest organization in the state to offer support and resources to brain injury survivors and their families. This, in addition to providing prevention programs, educational trainings, and legislative advocacy. In September, BIA-MA completed three Walk & Roll for Brain Injury events across the state of Massachusetts, and will continue furthering their mission to create a better future for survivors and their families.
