Car Hits Funeral Home Garage In Westborough: 'Speeding A Factor'

The driver was likely speeding, according to investigators.

WESTBOROUGH, MAβ€”No one was hurt in a crash in which the driver was allegedly speeding, hit a curb on Church Street, then a sign on Church Street, and crashed into a garage behind the Britton-Summers Funeral Homeon Church Street.

At 5:39 p.m. on Feb. 8, police got a call reporting that a car crashed into a two-bay garage behind 4 Church St., where Britton Funeral Home is located.

A 2015 Honda Fit had partially hit the garage, and two occupants were removed safely without injuries. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Francis Marnalse, 76, Gardner Street, Allston. The vehicle was owned by a Hopkinton resident who was a passenger in the vehicle.

Investigator Ptl. Laura Rossi found that speed may have been a factor in the crash, with the vehicle headed south on Church Street and losing control, driving over the curb and onto the lawn of 8 Church St. The vehicle struck a granite sign and then proceeded to the back yard of 4 Church St. where the vehicle struck the garage.

The accident remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.
