Westborough Among Safest School Districts In Massachusetts: Niche

WESTBOROUGH, MA—How safe is your child's school? Well, if you're in the Westborough school system, very safe, according to a report just released.

Recent national events have put student safety at the forefront, and one website has revealed which Massachusetts school districts rank highest in this category. Niche.com released its list of the Safest School Districts for 2018, and Westborough schools ranked at number 14.

"The Westborough schools is centered on the goals of strong relationships and personal connections with our students and families, which I believe creates a sense of emotional safety and confidence in the schools," said Westborough Superintendent of Schools Amber Bock. "We work at a highly collaborative level with the fire and police of Westborough to be responsive, which supports faculty and families knowing we care and that we take the safety of our students and staff as a high priority."

The list was created using information from the U.S. Department of Education, the FBI, parent reviews and other data. Niche assigned the most value – 50 percent – to health and safety reports from students and parents; expenses per student and student absenteeism were assigned the second-most value at 10 percent, suspensions accounted for 7.5 percent; and expulsions, law enforcement referrals and school-related arrests rounded were at 5 percent.

According to Niche, Westborough has 3,624 students in grades PK, K-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 13 to 1. According to state test scores, 83 percent of students are at least proficient in math and 86 percent in reading.
