Wounded Owl Saved By Westborough Firefighters During Separate Call

The firefighters noticed the injured bird while responding to a separate call at the Bay State Commons plaza.

WESTBOROUGH, MA — A fire alarm at a downtown Westborough shopping center alerted local firefighters to another emergency they might've never known about.

On Monday afternoon, firefighters traveled to near the New York Sports Club section of the Bay State Commons plaza on a report of a commercial fire alarm. While at the building, the firefighters noticed an injured owl along nearby train tracks.

Westborough Firefighter Mark Boyer gathered the owl so it could be transported to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine in Grafton for medical treatment. The bird suffered a broken wing, according to the fire department.
